Argan

  L'Argan "Argania spinosa"

Argan oil is an oil produced from the fruits of the Argan
"argania spinoza".The argan tree exsists since the tertial era,
it is a prehistoric tree.In the 16th century Hassan el Wassan
(alias Leon the African) travelling in Essaouira (morocco) describes
the making of the argan oil as a traditional and family affair
( the first use being for the family).

Extracting the argan oil is done in several phases.

After the removal of the soft pulp
  - the hard nut is cracked open by two stones
-roasting gently the seeds are  then removed from the nut
-the roasted seeds are then ground with a little water to a paste,
in a stone dish -the paste is then squeezed by hand to release the oil.

Notice that olive oil is obtained from the pulp of the fruit but argan
is from the seeds. It takes 100 kilos of argan fruits to make an
average of 3 litres argan oil and one argan tree gives an
average of 8 kilos of fruits.
